Bono’s influence goes far beyond the sold out stadium shows and the hundreds of thousands of fans singing along. The man behind the shades is one of the world’s most philanthropic performers. He’s successfully enlisted support of powerful allies toward the goal of global humanitarian relief, from government leaders to religious institutions, non-profit organizations to the popular media. In 2002 he embarked on one of many endeavors, co-creating RED, which is a business model designed to create awareness and a sustainable flow of money from the private sector into the Global Fund, to help eliminate AIDS in Africa. RED partners with businesses such as American Express, Converse, Gap, Emporio Armani, and Starbucks to name a few, each of whom creates a RED product. When consumers buy RED products money is sent directly to the Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa. www.joinred.com |

In 2006, Blake Mycoskie was just a regular guy, an American traveler in Argentina who saw children running around with no shoes. He saw a need, and his dream was born! In developing countries, walking is typically the main mode of transportation. Children walk for miles to get food, water, shelter and medical supplies - not to mention running around being kids and playing. With a strong desire to help, Blake created TOMS Shoes, a company that matches every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need. Later that year, Blake returned to Argentina with a group of family, friends, staff and 10,000 pairs of shoes made possible by caring TOMS customers. Since then, TOMS has donated over 200,000 pairs of shoes worldwide, and this is only the beginning! www.tomsshoes.com |

Thanksgiving is the perfect time to show appreciation to the heroes that dedicate their lives to helping others. Handwritten notes are becoming a lost art, so take a moment to sit down, grab your favorite stationery and a pen, and remind that special person how wonderful they are. It will be so fun to receive an unexpected note in the mail! How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes! ~Maya Angelou
Firefighters
Carry on a valuable tradition of taking cookies or another yummy treat to your local fire station. Firefighters often spend long hours at the “office,” so home cooked comfort food will be a special delight! Or simply send a card with notes from you and your neighbors to show these heroes how much they mean to the community.
Teachers
If you or someone you know is a teacher, you may know that the salary typically doesn’t reflect the level of hard work, dedication, and monumental significance of the position! This holiday season, show your appreciation and let them know how important they really are. Most of us can probably recall an inspiring teacher that had an impact in our own life. These unsung heroes are devoted to making a difference. Yet these days, teachers often have to purchase classroom supplies out of pocket, which they do without question, because they care. Make their day by bringing in a supply of Kleenex, pens and pencils, construction paper, or simply asking what they need most. Or give them something to enjoy outside of work, like a Starbucks card, movie tickets, or other gift cards. Whatever you do, your child’s teacher will truly appreciate your support, and even a small act of gratitude will go a long way in encouraging them.

Sometimes the most special thanks is taking the time for an unexpected phone call or hand written note. And check out this creative way to say “thanks!” to a family member or friend …

Life is busy, and often defined by stress - but this time of year is a special reminder to slow down and take time to remember what we are thankful for in our lives. Sometimes that means showing appreciation for someone that has made a special impact on you, and sometimes it’s about being thankful for the opportunity to share joy with someone else. At CAbi, our top priority is affecting lives through relationships, and more times that not, those we desire to help end up affecting our own lives just as much!
We’ve been inspired by the stories below … and we always love to hear more so, please send us your “thankful” stories too!
At a recent CAbi show, one of my customers arrived in “head to toe” CAbi and immediately sat down on the couch. During the presentation, she was much quieter than usual, and during shopping time, she never got out of her seat. When I had a breather, I went over to check on her, and she said she’d had a rough week and wasn’t in a shopping mood. I gave her a hug and continued helping other shoppers. After the show, I asked the hostess what was going on, and she told me that in the past week this customer’s father had passed away and she herself had a seizure. My heart went out to her; my son has had two seizures in the past two years,so I understood the affect they can have. I left her a phone message the next morning. When she called back, she poured out her heart to me and told me that she had felt isolated and like no one understood. She could not thank me enough for calling and listening. When I hung up the phone, I realized that I could not thank CAbi enough, because I would never have known her or had that divine appointment without CAbi.

As the year comes to a close, I would be remiss if I didn’t take a moment to say thank you for The Heart of CAbi Foundation. Last November, we had the privilege of bringing CAbi clothing to the unfortunate women who had been affected by Hurricane Ike in Galveston, Texas. One young mother walked over to me with tears in her eyes and shared that because she had lost so much in the storm, all she had to wear for the past few months was a couple cotton dresses. She said ,”I am overwhelmed that you are giving us ‘new’ clothing,” and then she put her head on my chest and began to sob. All I could do was hold her in my arms, let her cry, and comfort her. My heart was broken for her, and yet at the same time, I felt so honored to be able to extended a hand from CAbi in bringing such needed relief both with the clothing and emotional support.

My cousin, who is also my hostess, has RSD, which is an extremely painful and debilitating disease. She also has GI issues and between the two has been hospitalized over nine times the past two years. Having RSD in one of her legs has left her unable to wear a sock, stockings, shoes, jeans, skirts, etc, all due to the pain. She says if it weren’t embarrassing enough to rely on a cane and Medicare and be labeled permanently disabled, the only thing she can wear are sweats … which means church in sweats, a night out in sweats, etc.
So, at our CAbi show, I had her model CAbi’s cute Snap Crop Hoodie outfit. She loved it, she felt good and comfortable in it, and she received tons of compliments. The cute and comfy lounge pants hid her modified footwear (a sneaker with the top cut off) and looked great with the City Blouse. Alas, a beautiful outfit she could feel great in and wear out! That evening I realized true success - a time of escape and fun with friends and family and for the first time in two years, providing clothing that made my cousin feel good about herself.
