Dare to Bare
June 23, 2009 | 13th Edition
beattheheat Summer is officially here! Beat the heat in sizzling summer styles that are sure to keep you looking hot and feeling cool! Mini and tank may be four letter words, but they’re totally appropriate summer lingo. That’s right, ladies, it’s possible to show some skin without the scandal! Modesty is all about balance. Juxtapose the shortness of a mini skirt with a slightly oversized tunic. CAbi’s Lawn Cami has the skinniest of skinny straps, but the light and airy fabric doesn’t cling, so plenty is left to the imagination. A shoulder baring strapless maxi dress looks absolutely stunning while providing complete coverage. Even a bathing suit feels like suitable loungewear when paired with a cute cover up! Summer Style 101 - Sweet sundresses are always a smart choice for almost any summer occasion. And when in doubt, wear white! This crisp, clean color is sure to keep you looking cool all summer long.

How to Wear: DRESSES
June 23, 2009 | 13th Edition
howbohemian Bohemian dresses convey a youthful free spirit, and are often made from cotton and organic fibers, winning them the flower child stamp of approval. The tiered A-line style flows softly over the midsection, covering bumpy terrain for a beautifully flattering silhouette on almost every body type. Perfect with flips flops for a casual summer stroll or dressed up with wedges and jewelry for a dressier occasion.
howstructured Chic & Structured silhouettes employ princess seaming to highlight a woman’s shape. The strong and simple lines balanced with feminine details epitomize Michelle Obama’s chic White House style, and remind us that behind every good man is a strong and sexy woman! With the right accessories, this smart sixties-inspired style can take you from the conference room to a cocktail party.
howbelt Belted dresses cinch in at the waist to enhance or create an hourglass shape. Double the fun of your silk tunics or t-shirt dresses by adding a belt for an instantly updated summer style.
howflowy Flowy Goddess silhouettes are floating whimsically down the runways and into summer soirées! Layers of sheer fabric in cool pastels offer a hint of skin while providing full coverage. The soft and sexy folds and ruffles channel the Aphrodite within, so embrace this style when you want to amplify your feminine beauty.
howmaxi Maxi - mize your summer style with the ultimate summer dress! So chic and versatile, this light and flowy style is perfect for all of you summer needs. Oops, forget to shave? No problem! This ground-sweeping dress is the answer when you’re running late. Throw it on with your favorite summer hat and flip flops, and you’re ready to head out the door.

Summer Shy?
June 23, 2009 | 13th Edition

Still feeling a little summer shy? Well, fear not! Here are a few of our favorite tried and true last minute exercises for summer sculpting:

Arms:
Tricep Dips: Sit on the edge of your bed or a sturdy chair with your palms at your sides. Walk your feet forward until your hips are off the chair. With knees bent, lower yourself until your elbows are at a 90-degree angle and your upper arms are parallel to the floor. Raise yourself back up with your arm strength and repeat for 3 sets of 12.
tricepdip
biceptcurl Biceps Curls: Start with your arms down at your side with a 3-5 lb weight in each hand. Bending your arm at the elbow, raise and lower the weight on each side, one at a time for 3 sets of 12 reps each.
Lateral Raises: Stand tall with your arms down to your sides and a lightweight dumbbell in each hand. Keep your arms straight and raise them out to the side until they are parallel with the ground. Lower arms to starting position and repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. lateralraises
plies

Legs:

Pliés – You’ll soon see why ballet dancers have such lean and toned legs! Stand with feet shoulder width apart and toes pointed out. Dip down just until knees are just above your toes and then rise back up. Only dip as far as you are comfortable and keep a chair in front of you for balance if needed. Do 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps.

Calf Raises- Stand tall and slowly lift up onto your toes and then lower. Hold onto a wall for balance, if needed, and repeat for 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps. Make sure that your movements are smooth and controlled. For extra toning, hold free weights in each hand. calfraise
lunges

Lunges- To get the most out of this exercise, make sure that your hips are squared and your core is tight. Looking out instead of down will help you keep your balance. Make sure that your knees do not pass your toes and that they never touch the floor. Do 3 sets of 12 reps on each side.

Cool Fabric Guide
June 23, 2009 | 13th Edition
linen Linen may wrinkle, but this is the time to embrace it! This highly absorbent fabric keeps you exceptionally cool and fresh in warm weather, and because it’s structured, items like CAbi’s Linen Pant or Wedding Skirt are great dressy options for summer.
rayonviscose Rayon & Viscose found in items like CAbi’s Grecian Tank and Jungle Wrap are soft and smooth, but also offer full coverage. This highly absorbent fabric won’t cling even when you glisten.
lawncotton Lawn Cotton is great for summer dresses and skirts. This thin cotton is so light and airy it tends to be a bit sheer, so it’s usually fashioned in layers, like CAbi’s Soiree Skirt.
voile Voile Cotton is free flowing and gauzy, typically layered for summer skirts and dresses, and the sheer quality allows for airflow to keep you cool. CAbi’s Flirt Skirt is washed voile cotton, which is a bit thicker than standard voile, and the flowers on the Muse Tee are standard voile cotton.
CAUTION: Summer weather is sticky enough so don’t make it worse with your clothes! Here are a few fabrics to AVOID at all cost in the warmer weather:
Wool, Silk, Heavy Polyester & Velvet
