Have trouble mixing and matching your patterned garments? Think a printed shirt can only be worn with a select few outfits? Well, think again, because prints can easily be worn with numerous pieces within your wardrobe, creating outfits for almost any occasion! Open your closet door, pull out your favorite printed blouse, and you’ll see one, two, three different ways to wear it. And if you’re stuck for ideas, your little songbird is here to show you how!
One of the fabulous things about fashion is that you can embrace trends in a myriad of ways! Did you know that you can give the illusion of wearing a print through various fabrics and textures? You can even take your outfit up a notch by adding a printed piece to a textured ensemble. Textures mixed with prints can add a subtle, yet powerful impact to any outfit, easily taking you from ordinary to extraordinary! Check out these texture-rich looks that will have you feeling (and looking!) like a lady of luxury!
All that jazz about wearing prints can be confusing, and perhaps a little frustrating when you want to be daring without having people staring (for all the wrong reasons, that is!). So the Canary has done all your fashion homework for you and has put together a little cheat sheet for how to wear prints.
Print shy? Choose a solid color to ground your prints. Try the Skin Print Top with the Studio Jacket.
Not ready to commit? Wear a printed accessory: handbag, shoe, headband, or jewelry!
Mix it up! We love wearing all types of prints together – florals and stripes, polka dots and plaids or tweeds – the print world is your oyster! However, we do suggest testing out pieces of scale before committing to them; large florals and large polka dots may not be the best combo.
If you’re going to wear more than one print (and you should!), choose pieces that have complementary dominant colors – it’s chic and more interesting than wearing just one color head-to-toe.
Can you wear prints? YES! Anyone can wear prints! Just test the scale of the print on your body before buying; larger prints tend to emphasize the body part they are covering, so keep them on those places you’d like to enhance (and not on areas you’d prefer to minimize).
